Manufacturing of drugs was the monopoly of the multinational companies in India pre and post independence. By setting up the first ‘FairDeal Corporation' (FDC) plant at Jogeshwari (Mumbai) in the late forties, young and daring Anand Chandavarkar became one of the first Indians to pioneer drug manufacturing in the national sector.

In the early years, he envisaged the need for achieving self-sufficiency in formulations as well as in APIs. As a result, the Jogeshwari plant was the first facility of its kind - established to formulate a range of dosage forms, viz. injectables, ophthalmics, tablets, capsules, creams, powders, etc. in addition to manufacturing APIs.

Characteristic of many great men, Mr. Anand Chandavarkar (1905-1959), lived a brief life, yet left very deep foot-prints on the sands of time. His vision has blossomed into the FDC of today with many firsts in its cap, viz. Ophthalmics, Oral Rehydration Salts, Specialised Infant Foods, to name a few.

Now FDC has several modern manufacturing facilities and an established distribution network throughout India and in several countries worldwide. This growth and expansion stands testimony to Anand's entrepreneurial spirit and his contribution to India's self-reliance and economic progress.
